September 10, 2015, UTPB College of Business & Engineering Job Fair, 6-9 p.m., UTPB gym. This event is open to all engineering, business, industrial technology, geology and computer science students. Business casual is suggested. Please bring multiple copies of your resume. To help you prepare for this event, video-taped mock interviews and resume critiques can be scheduled by contacting the UTPB Career Center at 552-3634.
September 16, 2015 Study Abroad, 12:30-1:30 p.m., UTPB Multipurpose room. A representative from USAC study abroad will be on hand to discuss study abroad opportunities for students interested in studying for one or two semesters at overseas universities. A free lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m.
September 17, 2015, Law School: Is it Right for You?, UTPB Multipurpose room, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Moderator: Jeff Lambert; Todd, Barron, Thomason & Hudman law firm. Mr. Lambert will discuss entrance requirements to law school, the LSAT, the state bar and will also share some of his personal experiences as an attorney. A free lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m.
October 1, 2015, Dress for Success, 12:30-1:30 p.m., UTPB Multipurpose room. Moderators: UTPB Career Center staff. UTPB students will be on hand to model clothing most appropriate for the first job interview. Clothing will be provided by Dillard’s. All you can eat pizza, drinks and door prizes will also be available.
October 15, 2015, How to Write a Resume Using Action Verbs and Quantitative Statements, 12:30-1:30 p.m., UTPB Multipurpose room. Moderator: Tony Love, Director, Career Services. This fun seminar will help teach you how to create a “bottom-line” oriented resume using action verbs and quantitative statements. Cover letters, thank you letters and functional resumes will also be discussed. A free lunch will be provided and door prizes will be awarded.
October 22, 2015, Jumpstart Your College Career, 12:30-2:00 p.m., UTPB Multipurpose room. Moderator: Jaymin Patel. Noted speaker and author Jaymin Patel will provide a hands on seminar that will help students benefit the most from their college experience. After attending this workshop, students will be able to:
- Get on the “secret” fast track of college (and know where to find the free pizza!)
- Start a conversation with anyone
- Get professors on their side
- Make the grade with outstanding academics
- Take actions early on that will get employers excited to hire them
- Navigate difficult moments and inspire others
- Identify and connect with the most influential individuals on campus
- Make the most of the college experience
Often called the “Rockstar Career Guy”, Jaymin has spoken to students at some of the most prestigious universities in the U.S., including Harvard Business School, Wharton School of Business (University of Pennsylvania), Cornell University, University of Southern California (USC) and many, many others. A free lunch will be provided from noon to 12:30 p.m. before the workshop.
October 29, 2015, Weebly Workshop, 2:00-5:00 p.m., UTPB Career Center (RSVP required). This is a come and go workshop where you will be taught how to incorporate a hyperlink into the biographical section of your resume linking to your Weebly profile. Once your Weebly account is created, you’ll be able to include sample portfolios, video links to your elevator speech, a synopsis of your personal brand, copies of your transcripts & diplomas and contact information. We will critique your resume, scan copies for you and help you produce your youtube “elevator speech” video. When you arrive, please bring:
- Copy of your resume on flash drive
- Copies of your transcripts, diplomas or ACT/SAT/GRE test scores (optional)
- Samples (either digital or hard copy) of academic projects that you might want to include in your portfolio
Free food and drink will be available in our conference room.
November 5, 2015, Study Abroad, 12:30-1:30 p.m., UTPB Multipurpose room. Moderator: Julie Van Vechten-Smith, Western Regional Director, Academic Programs International. Come learn how you can study abroad in a country of your choice and simultaneously earn UTPB academic credit. International experiential learning (internship) opportunities will also be discussed. Also, UTPB faculty will be on-hand to discuss faculty-led study abroad opportunities. A free lunch will be provided and door prizes will be awarded.
November 12, 2015, Careers in Accounting, 12:30-1:30 p.m., UTPB Multipurpose room. Moderators: Jesse Vick, C.P.A. & Chad Valentine, C.P.A., Weaver LLC. UTPB grad and Certified Public Accountant Jesse Vick will speak to students about retail accounting, advising and individual tax preparation along with current requirements to sit for the C.P.A. exam in the state of Texas. Mr. Valentine will discuss auditing, review and operational agreements for energy concerns. A free lunch will be provided and door prizes will be awarded.
