It is a great pleasure to meet you! I am Dr. William Harlow, and I serve as the Dean of Undergraduate Success and Associate Professor of Communication at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. I am proud of the work we do here: We set high standards so that employers and members of the community know that our students are well-prepared, and then we give students the tools to meet those standards. That doesn't mean that college is- nor should it be- easy. It means that if you are willing to put in the time and effort required, one of my offices can help you find the tools needed to be successful. If you come in to us early and often to seek help, UTPB will never leave you on your own wondering how to successfully complete your courses.
I have served as Dean since September 1, 2012. I was also promoted to a tenured Associate Professor of Communication that month. Prior to that, I served as an Assistant Professor of Communication here at UTPB since June 2008. I worked as the diplomatic secretary at the International Boundary and Water Commission (U.S.-Mexico) from 2007-2008, as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State from 2003-2007 (including postings to Mexico City and Abuja, Nigeria), and as an Assistant Professor of Communication at Texas Tech University from 2002-2003. I earned my Ph.D. from Texas A&M in 2002, my M.A. from UT El Paso in 1999, and my B.A. from Angelo State in 1997. In my spare time, I like to travel and coach Little League baseball. I am excited to help you find the tools you need to succeed at UTPB!
