The Mentoring Program was developed to help first-year incoming undergraduate students enhance their collegiate experience at UTPB. Students in the Mentoring Program are matched with a Peer Mentor. Peer Mentors work to assist students through their transitional stages at and are knowledgeable of university policies, available campus resources and what is needed to become a successful student.
Reasons to Participate:
The advantages of having a mentor are huge! Mentors help with:
- Adjustment to college
- Locating Financial Aid/Scholarship Resources
- Time management
- The "ins and outs" of college life
- Setting and achieving goals
- Stress coping
- Study skills
- Involvement in social activities
The Mentoring Program is available to any UTPB student who wishes to participate. Those who participate are from various backgrounds, including students who live on campus and off campus.
What is Expected From Students Who Have a Mentor
Students who are our mentees are expected to :
- Meet with mentor weekly
- Communicate regularly
- Attend Monthly Study Sessions
- Inform mentor of problems
- Complete tutoring hours
- Be committed to college success
