What are Dual Credit Courses?

Dual credit is a process through which a student may earn high school credit and college credit for one course.

What is the cost of a Dual Credit course?

UTPB Dual Credit courses are $150 for each 3 hour course. English 1301 and English 1302 courses are $200 each.

Texas Success Initiative (TSI) information:

School districts and students that are interested in taking  the TSI exam with UTPB may contact Heather Cress at 432-552-2106 or 432-552-2555 to make an appointment. School districts have the option of becoming Proctors for their school district and must be given credentials by UTPB. These districts must also contact Heather Cress. The TSI exam will be given at no charge to the students. TSI exam instructions are available here.

Textbooks are required for UTPB Dual Credit courses:

Students are responsible for obtaining their own textbooks. Since some schools provide textbooks for their students, you should check with your high school counselor to determine the policy for the individual school. All required textbooks are available from the UTPB bookstore located on the UTPB campus, at 432-552-0220 or http://www.bkstr.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=10632&demoKey=d or digital books at www.CafeScribe.com . Students are encouraged to purchase their books through UTPB bookstore, but have the option of purchasing through other sources.

UTPB Support services for Dual Credit students:

UTPB Dual Credit students have access to support services on-line including the Student Success Center, On-line Library, and the On-line Writing Center (OWL). Click on the link below to print out a copy of the student support services which are beneficial to UTPB Dual Credit students. What is the Spur Scholarship?

UTPB offers a $500 Spur Scholarship each semester (one per semester) to UTPB Dual Credit students that successfully complete a course with a 70 or better. The Spur Scholarship can only be used at UTPB after high school graduation as a credit towards tuition, fees, and books.

The email address entered on the application will be used to notify the student of their admittance, UTPB student ID and a communication tool  between the student and Professor.

Requirements to Enroll in UTPB Dual Credit Courses:

New student requirements for 1st quartile students:

  • Be in the 1st quartile of their high school graduating class.
  • Demonstrate college readiness by meeting the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) exemption (listed below) or demonstrate TSI compliance on the New TSI Assessment - College Board exam minimum in all three areas Mathematics 350, Reading 351, and Writing essay score of 5 or 4 and multiple choice score of 363.
  • Provide copy of UTPB Dual Credit application with correct email address and courses. All applications must be signed by students High School Counselor or Principal and parent/guardian.

New student requirements for 2nd quartile students:

  • Be in the 2nd quartile of their high school graduating class.
  • Must submit a copy of the following minimum standardized test scores SAT (CR+M) of 900 or higher; or ACT of 19  or higher or PSAT of 90 or higher, or PLAN of 19 or higher.
  • Demonstrate college readiness by meeting the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) exemption (listed below) or demonstrate TSI compliance on the New TSI Assessment - College Board exam minimum in all three areas Mathematics 350, Reading 351, and Writing essay score of 5 or 4 and multiple choice score of 363.
  • Provide copy of UTPB Dual Credit application with correct email address and courses. All applications must be signed by students High School Counselor or Principal and parent/guardian. 
Returning student requirements for Spring:
  • Provide a copy of the UTPB Dual Credit application with correct email address and courses. All applications must be signed by students High School Counselor or Principal and parent/guardian.

One of the following standardized exemptions may also be used to satisfy TSI requirements.

  • ACT 23 with a minimum of 19 on the English test shall be exempt for both reading and writing sections of the TSI assessment and /or a 19 on the math section shall be exempt for the math sections of the TSI Assessment.
  • SAT (CR+M) of 1070 with a minimum of 500 on the critical reading, verbal test shall be exempt for both reading and writing sections of the TSI Assessment. A 500 on the mathematics shall be exempt for the math section of the TSI Assessment.
  • The Eleventh grade exit-level Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) with a minimum scale score of 2200 on the Math section and /or a minimum scale score of 2200 on the English Language Arts sections with a writing sub-section score of at least 3, shall be exempt from the TSI Assessment required under this title for those corresponding sections.
  • STAAR end of course (EOC) with a minimum score of Level 2 on the English III shall be exempt from the TSI Assessment required under this title for both reading and writing, and a minimum score of Level 2 on the Algebra II EOC shall be exempt fro the TSI Assessment required under this title for the mathematics section.

How do I login to my online classes?

  • Go to utpb.edu
  • Go into Course Login on the top right.
  • You will need to enter your Username and Password in the Login Here Box. For Username and Password follow the instructions listed below. The formula for your username and password is included below. Please remember your information to access the online class.
  • Once you may also use the Online Checklist - /online/reach/getting-started-online/online-checklist- to insure that you follow to appropriate steps to access your online courses and get started!

         Student UTPB Bb Username:

         lastname_first initial and last 3 digits of the UID (University ID)

         PASSWORD:

         first name + date of birth (MMDDYYYY)

         Student Example:

         Sally Searching UID: 900-76-1234, birthdate: 07/13/1970

         Username: searching_s234

         Password: sally07131970

How do I login to Campus Connect to change my e-mail address?

  • Log into Campus Connect using your UTPB Student ID and PIN number (provided by Registrar's Office)  You may contact the Registrar's office for your PIN number at registrar@utpb.edu or 432-552-2635.
  • Next go to the subtitle that reads Student information.
  • Once there click on the Demographic Data tab.
  • Then click the Update Information button.
  • Once there you may go to where it says Email and verify Email to change your email address.
  • Last make sure to click the Make Changes button in order for your information to be updated.

How do I login to Campus Connect to view my billing information, transcript, and schedule?

  • Login to Campus Connect to view transcript, view schedule and billing information.
  • Use your UTPB Student ID and your PIN number (provided by Registrar's Office). You may contact the Registar's office for your PIN number at registrar@utpb.edu or 432-552-2635.
  • To view your billing information you must first go to the subtitle that reads Student Information then click Review/Pay Account.
  • To view your transcript you must first go to the subtitle that reads Registration then click on Unofficial Transcript.
  • To View your schedule, you must go to the subtitle that reads Registration then click on View Schedule.

How Do I drop or withdraw from a Dual Credit course at UTPB?

  • Student must contact their school counselor and receive permission to drop the course.
  • Counselor must send email stating that the student will be dropping the course with the students name, student ID and course they will be dropping to  Heather Cress at cress_h@utpb.edu or registrar@utpb.edu or fax in email to 432-552-3635.
