Online Writing Lab (OWL)

We offer a paper critique service by e-mail for all students, faculty, and staff. Send the paper as follows:

1. Be sure that you call us at 552-2302, or leave a message letting us know that you will be submitting a paper through the OWL. Include your phone number in case we have questions about your assignment. At this point, we will ask a few basic questions about you and your assignment.

2. When you submit your paper through e-mail, be sure that it is a Word or other text document filed as an attachment to the e-mail, or you may send it as text written within the message. Call 552-2302 and ask for the e-mail address in which you are to submit your paper. Please include your name, major, and student ID in the message.

3. If you submit it in Word format, your paper will be returned to you with our comments and corrections marked in red font; otherwise, corrections will be made in all caps.

4. To use one of our suggestions in Word format, right-click the change and select “Accept Change” from the menu. To remove it, select “Reject Change” from the same menu.

5. Be sure to schedule your time realistically. Your work may require extensive revisions, and you will need to have sufficient time in order to make corrections.  Remember that papers sent through the OWL are secondary on the tutors' priority to in-person students, and we are unable to work on the OWL outside of our hours of operation.

6. If you have any questions or concerns after we have responded to your document, call or e-mail us. You may resubmit your work after you have revised it.
