The first annual South Central American Society Biomechanics (SCASB) Conference will be held at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB), Odessa, Texas. SCASB will be held in conjunction with the Texas chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (TACSM). The conference theme is "Past, Present, Future" and will include keynote speeches from Dr. Jere Mitchell, Dr. Matthew Mahar, Dr. Nick Stergiou and Dr. Paul DeVita. Opening remarks will be made by Dr. David Watts, president of UTPB and Dr. James Eldridge, associate professor of exercise physiology at UTPB.

While the theme of the conference is "Past, Present, Future", abstracts representing all areas of biomechanics are invited for poster and podium presentations. The abstract submission deadline is December 31st, 2007. An awards committee composed of Drs. Douglas Powell and Darla Smith will present a "Best Abstract" award for the conference.

  • The first SCASB Conference will be held at the MCM Elegante from February 29th to March1st in Odessa, Texas.

  • SCASB is an annual American Society of Biomechanics regional meeting. The theme of the meeting is "Past, Present, Future".

  • Opening Remarks will be made by Dr. David Watts (President, UTPB) and Dr. James Eldridge (Associate Professor of Kinesiology, UTPB).

  • Keynote Presentations will be given by: Dr. Jere Mitchell (Texas Southwestern Medical Center), Dr. Matthew Mahar (East Carolina University), Dr. Nicolas Stergiou (University of Nebraska, Omaha) and Dr. Paul DeVita (East Carolina University).

  • The conference will be a welcoming environment to undergraduate and graduate students to present their research while receiving constructive feedback from peers and faculty. Students are encouraged to submit and present abstracts.
