The University of Texas of the Permian Basin

Campus Information

It is my pleasure to welcome you to The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, a part of the UT System. UTPB is dedicated to students and their academic success. Two national publications, U.S. News & World Report and Washington Monthly, have applauded us. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recognized us for being the first public university in the state to implement AVID strategies at the post-secondary level.

Our College of Business and Engineering is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)-International.  Our social work program is nationally accredited by the Council of Social Work Education and the College of Education is NCATE accredited. nationally recognized.  Our art program is also nationally accredited. We offer degrees in some of the fastest growing career fields such as education, criminal justice, computer science, petroleum technology, information systems, and Nursing. We also offer several online undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as a collaborative doctorate in educational leadership with UT San Antonio. The new B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, with or without a concentration in nuclear engineering, has become the sixth largest major on campus. Beginning Fall 2011, we are offering a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering. Our Nursing program will open to upper level students in Fall 2012.

UT Permian Basin is a dynamic, growing campus with over 4,000 students. Soon to open is a world-class performing arts center. In the fall of 2011, a science complex with state-of-the-art computer and science labs will open to form a quadrangle with the original classroom building and library lecture center. There is also a model Visual Arts Studio with gallery next door to an Olympic-sized pool and gymnasium. Our brand new Student Activities Center is up and operating, offering Starbuck’s coffee and really good food.

Since the Permian Basin boasts sunny skies most of the year, UTPB is the perfect place to study on the courtyard or lawn or watch a Falcon soccer match. NCAA D-II sports include men’s and women’s soccer, cross country, swimming, basketball, and tennis as well as men’s baseball and women’s softball and volleyball. In 2008-2009, both the volleyball and baseball teams won the Heartland Conference championships, and in 2011, the women’s basketball team won the conference. The athletic program also supports cheerleading and a dance team. Beginning Fall 2011, we will add men’s and women’s tennis. Go Falcons!

Whether you arrange for a personal tour or attend one of our Falcon Days, you’ll see some of the nicest student housing in Texas. We offer a variety of apartment-style units. Plan to attend one of several theatrical productions or a musical performance, an art show, or an athletic event to see that this is a great place to be. UTPB has an active Student Activities program, and intramural sports are available.

I want you to have the very best college experience possible. UT Permian Basin faculty and staff are dedicated to help you succeed. Come join us!
