Grants - federal or state funds which are awarded based on financial need of the student. Grants do not have to be paid back.

Also, the student must sign a master promissory note (MPN).
Scholarships - funds that do not have to be paid back. The criteria vary. Not all are need- based or academically-based. Please go to the that web page for more information.

Falcon Promise Program- UTPB program for students from families making $45,000 per year or less; will cover tuition and mandatory fees.
Earn-In Scholarship - UTPB program for residential undergraduate students that do not receive a scholarship as part of their admission to the university but achieve a 3.25 GPA or greater and complete 30 hours in an academic year. Application is required.

Additional information for student that received scholarship certificates for UTPB pre-college or duel credit programs. Students would have had to received these certificated prior to attending UTPB. There is not way to apply or be considered for these awards unless there was previous involvement in these programs and a certificate was received.
Texas Pre-Freshman Engineering Program Scholarships and Dual Credit Spur Scholarships
All Texas Pre-Freshman Engineering Program Scholarships and Dual Credit Spur Scholarships will be redeemed in the following method:
All Texas Pre-Freshman Scholarships in the amount of $2000, are to be used in $1000/semester increments. Scholarships will only be redeemed for fall/spring semesters. Only one scholarship can be used per academic year. Cannot be redeemed for cash value. Cannot be used with any other Spur Scholarship and/or Texas Pre-Freshman Scholarship.
All Texas Pre-Freshman ‘Book’ Scholarships in the amount of $500, are to be used in $500/semester increments. Cannot be redeemed for cash value. All scholarships will be applied to student’s accounts as a form of financial aid. Cannot be used with any other Spur Scholarship and/or Texas Pre-Freshman Scholarship. Only one scholarship can be used per fall/spring semester.
All Dual Credit Spur scholarships in the amount of $1000 and/or $500, are to be used in $500/semester increments. Cannot be used with any other Spur scholarships and/or Texas Pre-Freshman Scholarships. Cannot be redeemed for cash value. Only one scholarship can be used per fall/spring semester.
Dual Credit Scholarships cannot be used to pay fees for Dual Credit course work.
All students who are redeeming their Texas Pre-Freshman Engineering Program and Dual Credit Scholarships must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA can be found by following this link >>> https://fafsa.gov/
*Note*: Only one scholarship, of the listed above, can be used at a time. If you are not attending UTPB as a degree seeking student, you are not eligible to redeem the Texas Pre-Freshman Scholarships and/or the Dual Credit Scholarships.
All Spur Scholarship Criteria is as Follows:
- Spur Scholarships will be valid only for the semester indicated.
- Spur scholarships are valid only for the first semester of enrollment.
- Students may receive only one Spur scholarship ($500) per semester.
- Spur scholarships are valid only for the student whose name appears on the card or certificate.
- Spur scholarships are non-refundable scholarships. If the recipient drops a course or has all expenses paid, the Spur scholarship has no cash value.
- Documentation for the award of a Spur scholarship must exist for every Spur scholarship that is awarded.
- Spur scholarships are not stackable.
