CAS GRADUATE CATALOG
The Graduate program in the College of Arts and Sciences is an essential component of the University’s research effort. CAS Master Programs are offered in two tracks: thesis track or non-thesis track. For example, the Master of Public Administration/Leadership (MPAL) degree is a non-thesis track program. All other Master’s programs offer a thesis option in which the graduate student will complete a prescribed array of courses and be given a substantial research project under the mentorship of a UTPB graduate Faculty.
CAS graduate programs are designed to enhance critical thinking, effective oral and written communication as well as develop discipline-specific marketable skills that require the student to better understand the theoretical aspect of their discipline. Each graduate track prepares the student not only for enhanced job opportunities which can improve earning potential, but it also prepares the student to further pursue their entrance into professional and Ph.D. programs.
The Master of Arts (MA) degree is offered in English, Spanish, History, and Psychology with concentrations in either Clinical Psychology or Experiential Psychology; the Master of Science (MS) degree is offered in Biology, Computer Science, Criminal Justice Administration, Geology, Kinesiology, and Mathematics; and the MPAL degree offered in Public Administration Leadership. Also, the Master of Science in Kinesiology is offered on-line through the UT System Collaborative program. Many of these degree programs have a full online version of the non-thesis track such as the MS in Kinesiology or Criminal Justice Administration, the MA in English or Psychology, and the MPAL.
