Meet the SAT at UTPB

What it Means for Your Child

The SAT is a test that measures the critical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and writing skills that students need to do college-level work.

What Is the Test Like?

The test's three sections are divided into nine subsections which are timed separately, including a 25-minute essay.

Tests Ability To:

  • understand and analyze what you read
  • recognize relationships between parts of a sentence
  • understand word meaning in context

Solve problems involving:

  • algebra and functions
  • geometry and measurement
  • number and operations
  • data analysis, statistics, and probability
  • use standard written English
  • identify sentence errors
  • write an essay and develop a point of view

How Can Your Child Prepare?

Enroll in SAT Preparation Courses at UTPB today! Courses are for ages 15 and up and are designed to improve scores by providing successful standardized test-taking strategies.

They include:

  • Math, Verbal, and Writing instruction,
  • Student group cooperation,
  • Guided practice on SAT tests from previous years,
  • Essay instruction for the New Writing section,
  • And test-taking strategies

UTPB Workshops are scheduled for:

January 19, 2008
February 23, 2008
April 26, 2008
May 31, 2008

*All workshops are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in UTPB Library Lecture Halls 001 and 002 .
Students must bring their own lunch.
