The Reading Program offers candidates a Master's degree plus two certifications within one, 36-hour program. It fits comfortably with the dyslexia training program currently offered in the local districts. Half of the coursework is online.  Upon completion, candidate qualify to take the state examination for Reading Specialist, which may lead to a recommendation from UTPB for the Master Reading Teacher Certification. By adding two additional courses, candidates may also qualify for the English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher certification. Candidates who have a Master's in Education prior to program acceptance may often take fewer hours and earn a certification as a Reading Specialist.  For those seeking post-baccalaureate teacher certification, the Reading Specialist program is a complementary; many courses that lead to teacher certification may also be applied to the Reading Specialist credentials. UTPB has a 100% pass rate on the state Reading Specialist exam.
