Industrial Technology is a field of study designed to prepare technical and/or management oriented professionals for employment in business, industry, education, and government. Industrial Technology is primarily involved with the management, operation, and maintenance of complex technological systems.
Two degrees are offered. The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT) is a traditional bachelor degree. The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree with the Industrial Technology track is specifically designed to shorten the time required for a student who earned an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in a technical area to earn a four-year bachelor degree. To achieve this, a thirty-one credit hour block transfer of coursework from the technical courses in the student's Associate of Applied Science degree are applied toward the BAAS degree. This reduces the time for a full-time student holding an AAS degree to earn a four-year BAAS degree by two semesters. Students holding an AAS degree can pursue the BSIT degree; however, it will take them approximately 31 more credit hours to earn the BSIT degree.
Students pursuing either the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology degree or the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree with the Industrial Technology track receive a broad based general Industrial Technology education. Students develop not only their technical skills but also their personality, cooperativeness, innovativeness, concern for the organization, communication skills and dependability. Graduates of the program will be equipped to meet the new and emerging challenge of a modern high technology society.
Both the BSIT and the BAAS degrees provide the ability for students to pursue a Petroleum Technology track by taking specialized courses in Petroleum Technology. These courses prepare students for careers in the oil exploration industry in Texas and other oil producing regions.
