Welcome to The University of Texas of the Permian Basin website representing the College of Business and Engineering (COBE). Let me briefly introduce you to our college, which was created in 1975, following the establishment of the university in 1969. The business school was renamed as the College of Business and Engineering in 2013. Currently, the COBE offers 13 degrees at the undergraduate and master’s levels with more than 1,800 students and 40 faculty members.
The College benefits from its location in the Midland-Odessa metropolitan area. We are centered in the Permian Basin region which is the primary petroleum production region in America. Consequently we offer several programs relating to energy and job placement in professional positions is excellent. Our academic programs are highly ranked by Businessweek, Financial Times and U.S. News & World Report. The college has earned these distinctions by offering relevant, rigorous curriculum developed by exemplary teachers and excellent researchers.
As a business student, your interest may be in Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing or Economics. You may also be interested in our MBA (Master of Business Administration) or MPA (Master of Public Accountancy) degrees. Energy Business certificates are also available. The business school was approved for accreditation by the premier AACSB accreditation agency in 2005. As a student at the COBE, we believe you will acquire the experience, skills, and perspectives necessary to succeed in a dynamic business environment. The COBE has a quality program that will meet your needs.
As an engineering student, you will be instructed by faculty members with real world experience in mechanical or petroleum related industries. We introduced Mechanical Engineering in 2008 and Petroleum Engineering in 2011. Both programs are accredited by ABET. Nuclear Energy and Aerospace tracks are also available. The engineering clubs are quite active and receive strong support from engineering firms located in the area. Alternatively you may be interested in the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology degree which combines elements of both engineering and business.
COBE now has a $52 million engineering building under construction on the Midland Campus located east of the CEED building. It will house all engineering programs. We expect occupancy in January 2019.
Our faculty spends time getting to know you individually to ensure your academic achievement and professional development. Not only do faculty members produce cutting-edge research, they also offer substantial real-world experience. I invite you to learn more about the school, read our mission statement, and visit our Web pages.
Our graduates in business and engineering enjoy an exceptionally high job placement record. I think you will find that the UT Permian Basin College of Business and Engineering strives to offer an exceptional educational experience.
