Paul Haensly is a financial economist and wannabe mathematician. He earned a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of North Texas in 1994 where his dissertation topic was “The Application of Statistical Classification to Business Failure Prediction.” Prior to graduate school in Finance, he worked as a Systems Analyst for a defense contractor in Huntsville, Alabama, where he was engaged in mathematical modeling and computer simulations.

Dr. Haensly’s teaching and research interests are primarily in modern portfolio theory, asset pricing models, market efficiency, and financial derivatives. His work has been published in the Journal of Financial Management and Analysis; The Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics; Accounting Research Journal; Journal of Accounting and Finance Research; Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics; Southwest Business and Economics Journal; Oil, Gas & Energy Quarterly; Journal of Asset Management; and The Credit and Financial Management Review. The College of Business and Engineering honored him for his scholarly work twice with the Outstanding Researcher Award in 2004 and 2005. He also was honored with the UTPB President’s Outstanding Researcher Award in 2005.

Dr. Haensly greatly enjoys teaching at UTPB. He was recognized for his teaching with the College of Business and Engineering’s Outstanding Teacher Award in 2003, by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 2004 and 2005, and by the Midland Chamber of Commerce’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006. Prior to joining the UTPB faculty in 1997, Dr. Haensly taught at the University of North Texas as a Visiting Assistant Professor and at Texas Christian University and Our Lady of the Lake University as an Adjunct.
