Dr. Robert Morrison is a senior lecturer and coordinator of the Industrial and Petroleum Technology program at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. He received a Ph.D. from the College of Technology at Indiana State University in 2008 specializing in manufacturing systems. He is preparing to defend his dissertation for a second Ph.D. from the College of Business and Entrepreneurship at the University of Texas of the Rio Grande Valley where he completed 96 postdoctoral hours in accounting, econometrics, finance, international business, and management. He earned three master’s degrees in business and technology fields from Morehead State University, and two undergraduate degrees from Eastern Kentucky University.
Dr. Morrison’s research interest include entrepreneurship, small business finance, community banking, international business, and technology management and transfer in underdeveloped nations. Dr. Morrison has served as a consultant to the Inter-American Development Bank on projects to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturing in Central America and the Caribbean Basin.
Dr. Morrison was involved in an entrepreneurial startup as a teenager, that business still operates today and Dr. Morrison still serves on the board of directors. In the early 1990s, he started a born-global company in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and developed strategic partnerships with New Generation Computing and Mather Dataforms to provide software solutions to the apparel manufacturing industry throughout the Caribbean Basin. In 1996, he was directly involved, through the Honduran Manufacturers Association, in addressing allegations in testimony before the US Congress related to apparel industry labor issues. Dr. Morrison speaks Spanish fluently and he and his family have been involved in philanthropic activities building schools and clinics throughout Central America, the Caribbean Basin, and Mexico.
Dr. Morrison is an active investor, he owns commercial and residential rental real estate, is a charter shareholder in a community bank, and he also holds both US and Honduran commercial pilot certificates. He and his wife were among the 26 selected for AACSB’s 2006 Inaugural Professional Bridge Program at UC Irvine to transition business executives to careers in academia. Dr. Morrison has taught courses in accounting, communications, entrepreneurship, finance, information systems, international business, leadership, management, operations management, project management, and supply chain management.
