Shuming Bai, Ph. D., is an Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. She received an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in Finance and International Business from 
The University of Texas – Pan American.
Dr. Bai’s teaching and research interests are primarily in corporate finance, international finance, energy finance, and asset pricing models. She is an Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Electronic Finance and the International Journal of Revenue Management. Some of her recent publications can be found in the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money, International Journal of Revenue Management, Journal of International Finance Studies, International Journal of Electronic Finance, International Journal of Sustainable Economy, International Journal of Services and Standards, International Journal of Mobile Communications, and the Industrial Management & Data Systems. The University honored her for her scholarly work with the La Mancha Society Golden Windmill Award in 2011. And the College of Business and Engineering twice recognized her intellectual contribution with the Outstanding Research Award in 2010 and 2011. 
Dr. Bai enjoys teaching and has over fifteen years of college teaching experiences at American universities. She has taught energy finance, corporate finance, and international finance, among other courses. Dr. Bai created the Energy Finance course from scratch in 2010. She was recognized for her excellence in teaching by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 2006. Prior to joining UTPB, Dr. Bai taught at the University of Texas – Pan American and at the University of Texas at Arlington.
