FACULTY SENATE

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin

MEETING SCHEDULE for CURRENT ACADEMIC YEAR
This is the place where we keep unapproved minutes of Senate meetings. Normally, you would encounter such minutes from the time they are compiled until they are approved by the Senate. After that, they will move to the archives.
This is the place where we keep past business of the Senate in the form of approved minutes of Senate meetings. Archives are not yet complete, but will be in process for some time.

The University of Texas System includes a faculty advisory panel consisting of two representatives (plus an alternate) from each of the nine academic and six health-related components that comprise the system. That body is called the UT System Faculty Advisory Council (FAC). Its primary function is to advise the Chancellor and Board of Regents of the UT System on matters that might be of concern to faculty generally. Presidents of the various components make appointments to the FAC. Generally speaking, these appointments are made from among faculty members who are actively involved in faculty governance at the campus level.
The practice at UTPB has been to appoint the immediate past president and current president of the Faculty Senate. As of Fall 1999, the current Vice President of the Senate has been designated a formal alternate representative to the FAC in the event either of the two regular representatives are unable to attend meetings or complete their terms of office.
The FAC meets quarterly and conducts its business through four standing committees and whatever ad-hoc committees seem desirable. The four major work areas are: Academic Affairs, Health Affairs, Governance and Faculty Quality.
The FAC website can be found here.
The Faculty Senate at UTPB also participates in the Texas Council of Faculty Senates. This body is composed of faculty governance representatives of all four-year colleges and universities in the State of Texas. Its agenda is broader than that of the UT System FAC, but many similar issues are typically under consideration. The current president and vice president of the Faculty Senate at UTPB are our representatives to the Texas Council. This body meets semi-annually.
The Texas Council website can be found here.
