ResNet
All UTPB Student Housing facilities are wired for high speed Internet access. In addition to the wired access, wireless is also available in and around the six Falcon's Nest Apartment buildings and in the Recreation Room. Obtaining access to either the wired or wireless networks is essentially the same once you have installed the appropriate network card.
What kind of wired network card do I need?
The ResNet network is capable of communicating with network cards that support speeds up to 100Mb/sec. Frequently these cards are referred to as 10BaseT or 100BaseT cards.
What kind of wireless card do I need?
The ResNet Wireless network supports the 802.11b wireless standard. Your card will need to support this standard as well.
How do I obtain access?
Once you have a working network card and are either plugged into a wall jack or are within range of a wireless access point, simply launch your browser (either Netscape or Internet Explorer will work fine) and attempt to browse to any web site. Your requested site should be intercepted and redirected to the Network Registration page. At this point, you will need a working UTPB email account. If you do not have a UTPB account, one can be obtained in MB2215. Simply enter your UTPB username and password, read the Acceptable Use Policy and click "Accept". If successful, you will receive a page telling you to reboot your computer. Reboot and you should be able to surf the web.
I'm having problems registering, what's wrong?
If you are unable to access the registration page, more than likely, your computer is either configured incorrectly or infected with a virus or adware. Your Resident Assistant has been provided a CD that will assist in the cleanup process.
