Wireless Internet service

Wireless Internet access is currently available in the following locations:
Library Lecture Center - Lecture Halls and 1st and 2nd Floors of the Library
Mesa Building - All Classrooms and Common Areas including the Student Union
Visual Arts - Classrooms and Common Areas
Founder's Buildings - All Classrooms
All GAB Classrooms
Student Housing - Falcon's Nest Apartments and Parker Ranch House
Center for Energy and Economic Diversification - Building Wide
Speeds of up to 11 Mb/second are supported using the 802.11b wireless networking standard. Anyone wishing to utilize the wireless network will need to obtain a PCMCIA wireless card that adheres to 802.11b standard. No WEP key is required and as a result wireless traffic is not encrypted. Access to security sensitive information should utilize SSH or SSL technology between the client and server. The following steps should be followed to insure the greatest success.
1. Purchase wireless network card. (List of recommended cards)
2. Install card and drivers according to the manufacturers directions.
3. Register for access by launching a browser to any website, you will be required to enter your UTPB email username and password.
4. Enjoy your new access.
