The database provides access to more than 1,100 journal titles (more than 7 million pages) published from 1740-1900. Titles range from America's first scientific journal, Medical Repository, to popular magazines like Vanity Fair and Ladies' Home Journal. 89 journals are from the period 1740-1800; 900+ cover the pre-civil war period; 118 publications were active during the Civil War and Reconstruction period (1861-1877). A few titles extend past the 1900 cut-off date: titles like Forum (later Forum and Century) which was published from 1886-1940, and Littell's Living Age (later Living Age) published from 1844-1941. |

There is a searchable database which offers several different ways to access the material. The database introduction and

The size of Harper's Weekly pages (11" x15.5") does not allow the use of Internet browser printing functions [only the left side of the page will be printed].
