Multiple Journals From a Single Publisher--in one database

Project Muse: Coverage 1996+. This database contains the complete texts with all graphics, footnotes, and references of all most Johns Hopkins University journals. In 2001 additional titles from other prestigious university presses (e.g. U. of Chicago, U. of Wisconsin, U. of Texas) began to be added. The collection now totals nearly 200 high quality academic journals. The project focuses on humanities & social science titles, but also publishes journals dealing with the history of science.
JSTOR: Arts & Sciences Collections I-IV, Art & Sciences Literature Enhancement Collection, Biology & Ecology Collection, General Science Collection, Business Collection. JSTOR archives & provides full-image for more than 120 scholarly journals from their beginnings to the most recent 4 to 7 years (varies with vendor contracts). For example, JSTOR contains the full-text of all numbers of Mind from volume 1, 1876-volume 102, 1993.
PAO Full-Text Collection: covers 37 key subject areas in the humanities and social sciences; it contains the contents of 234 journal runs, providing access to over 3.9 million article pages. It has digitized important scholarly titles but also includes journals of historical interest that began publication in the 19th century, for example, Edinburgh Review, which was first published in 1802.
FYI: Chadwyck is planning a major upgrade and interface changes to this product during the last quarter of 2005.
ScienceDirect: Elsevier's ScienceDirect contains the full-images of more than 600 journal titles, most from 1998 forward, though about 15% provide full-image access back to 1993. In spite of its name ScienceDirect also provides access to more than 100 business journals, 50 humanities titles, and about 100 psychology and education journals.
Wiley InterScience: Full-image of more than 300 journals, citations, indexing and tables of contents for more than 100 additional titles.

CLCD: Children's Literature Comprehensive Database: Children's Literature reviewers read and critically review more than 3,000 titles annually.

Nature, Nature Archives Online, and Nature Research (aka Monthlies): Nature Archives coverage is 1987-1996, Nature is 1996 forward; full-text andfull-image (PDF) files; PDF files usually print better, but full-text files handle some types of graphics better.

PAIS: Public Affairs Information Service: Proquest:CSA; indexes political science, economics, public affairs & government information from more than 120 different countries; newspapers and newsletters are not indexed but statistical reports and government documents are.
Physical Education Index: CSA; The Physical Education Index includes the complete backfile of the index--1970 to the present.
SportDiscus: SPORTDiscus indexes both serial and monographic literature in the following areas of sport: recreation, exercise physiology, sports medicine, coaching, physical fitness, the psychology, history and sociology of sport. 70% of the database consists of periodical articles.

Britannica Online: The Encyclopedia Britannica Online online; this standard reference work is updated monthly; each main entry includes the appropriate bibliographic citation for citing the article; also includes access to The Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary.
Gale Virtual Reference Library: More than 165 reference books from Gale, including such titles as Encyclopedia of Social Theory, the 17-volume, Grzimek's Animal Life Encyclopedia, 2nd edition, Encyclopedia of Public Relations, New Dictionary of the History of Ideas, and Tobacco in History & Culture
Maps 101: Click on "Subscriber Login" ; the password will be automatically entered. Maps 101 is an online collection of over 4,000 maps. A large selection of these maps have been optimized for classroom teaching at all levels.
Mergent Online: Now called Mergent Online this database is the electronic equivalent of Moody's full-text company data
Oxford English Dictionary Online: Complete text of the most current edition of the Oxford English Dictionary [OED] i.e. the Second Edition, 1989 with all supplements and for the online version, quarterly updates of new words.

netLibrary

The single most important access point to full-image traditional book titles supporting academic research.

Provided through the UTSystem Digital Library Initative; provides access to the full-text of more than 45,000 current imprint titles--books, 1990 forward. Approximately 50% of the titles are social sciences (including education and business); about 30% of titles are related to the humanities. Particularly important for humanities researchers netLibrary organizes and gives access to Gutenberg Project texts [historical backfile of classic titles].

Browsing does not have a time limit; checkouts are for two hours, and require that a free account be established. All netLibrary titles are indexed in FirstSearch and accessible through hotlinks in all relevant databases from FirstSearch.

Alexander Street: American Film Scripts Online

The full images of 265 scripts written by 334 authors; examples of authors are: Joan Didion, Ruth Gordon, D.W. Griffith, and John Huston

Alexander Street: Early Encounters in America

The full images of 83,000 pages, authored by 1,076 writers; North America includes a limited number of works from Canada and Mexico

AlexanderStreet: Latin American Women Writers

The full images of 100,000 pages, authored from 1700-present. Authors from the 19th century include: Clorinda Matto de Turner (Peru), Juana M. Gorriti (Argentina), Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaneda (Cuba), Delmira Agustini (Argentina), and Julia Lopes Almeida (Brazil), among others. A number of important figures from the early 20th century are also targeted for inclusion, such as Alfonsina Storni (Argentina), Juana de Ibarbourou (Uruguay), Gabriela Mistral (Chile), and Clarice Lispector (Brazil).

The Gerritsen Collection: Women's History Online, 1453-1954

An international digital library that spans four centuries and documents the lives and experiences of women in public and private arenas. Contains more than 2,000,000 page images in 15 languages. The collection is made up of 265 periodical titles and 4,471 book and pamphlet titles.

HarpWeek, 1857-1912

HarpWeek is the full-text and full-image reproductions of Harpers Weekly. There is a searchable database which offers several different ways to access the material. The database introduction and help pages are excellent. The vendor also provides Finding Aids for some of the most common areas of interest--e.g. Geography, Literary Genre, Occupation or Role in Society and so on.

Historical Newspapers Online

Palmer's Index to the [London] Times, 1790-1905; The Official Index to the [London] Times, 1906-1980; Palmer's Full Text Online, 1785-1870; The Historical Index to the New York Times, 1851-1922.

Humanities E-Book Project

LION: Literature Online

A fully searchable library of more than 350,000 works of English and American poetry, drama, and prose, plus biographies, bibliographies and key secondary sources.

National Security Archive

comprehensive collection of significant primary documents central to US foreign and military policy since 1945. Nearly 40,000 of the most important, declassified documents - totaling more than 250,000 pages - are included in the database.

TESO: Teatro Espanol del Siglo Oro

TESO is a full-text database which contains the most important dramatic works of sixteenth and seventeenth century Spain. It contains more than 800 plays by 16 dramatists.

Note: The UT Permian Basin EZProxy server is now operational. Most library databases can now be accessed off-site. Go to Remote Access to Library Databases. The server is new enough, just installed the third week of August, so that not all databases are activated for remote access, yet.
