Open Access Electronic Journals  Directory of Open Access Journals e-journals.org HighWire Press	There are three primary lists or directories that link to many academic (but some non-academic) free electronic journals. These are Directory of Open Access Journals, e-journals.org, and HighWire Press. HighWire Press links primarily to science materials.
Ready Reference	Provides links to various comprehensive ready reference sites. Also provides links to sites UTPB students have found particularly helpful.
Web-based Information by Academic Discipline	This is a series of pages providing webliographies focusing on academic disciplines (majors). For example, History, Language & Literature, General Science and Education.
Subject Directories with an Academic Focus	Definition: A subject directory is a service that offers a collection of links to Internet resources submitted by site creators or evaluators and organized into subject categories. Directory services use selection criteria for choosing links to include, though selectivity varies among services.
Search Engines	Definition: A search engine service provides a searchable database of Internet files collected by a computer program, called a wanderer, crawler, robot, worm or spider. Indexing is created from the collected files, and the results are presented in a schematic order. There is no selection criteria for the collection of files. Exercise caution when using search engines for academic research.
Boolean Searching	A basic introduction to the concepts of Boolean searching. Particularly useful if you are relying on search engines as a research tool.
Evaluating Internet Resources	Not all print sources are equally valuable or accurate, similarly internet resources vary substantially in quality. Primary criteria include: accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, coverage.

TexShare Database Program TexShare is a statewide resource sharing consortium. One of the goals of TexShare is to provide an array of general purpose databases accessible to the general public through local public libraries (municipal, county, district, etc). Community college, university, law, and other academic library environments may also provide access to TexShare databases. Due to legislative budget cuts since July 2001, the number and type of databases offered through TexShare has had to be significantly reduced.
