| Learner.org: aka Annenberg Channel
Annenberg Media supports a vast web site devoted to making educational materials in all subjects available to educators and the
general public in both electronic and print format. The Annenberg Channel is a free satellite channel for schools and public
broadcasting stations, public access channels and other non-commercial community agencies. It runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and
airs the video programs funded by Annenberg Media. It is available free to any agency with a Ku-band satellite dish and a DigiCipher II
satellite receiver. If desired the same programs may be purchased on videocassette and DVD.

Definition: Subject directories are human centered services. The people who maintain the directories decide which sites will be linked from each service. In contrast, search engines are machine centered services. Spiders grab Web pages, computer programs index the content, and a search mechanism queries the index and ranks the results. To use a familiar term, academic subject directories are refereed.
