40 Years UTPB - The University of Texas of the Permian Basin

Meningitis Information

Are you NEW to UTPB or RETURNING after sitting out one or more semesters?    Are you under 30?

You may have to be vaccinated 10 days PRIOR to registering, due to a new state law.

Effective January 1, 2012, if you are under 30 years of age, are a new student or if you were not enrolled at UTPB during the fall of 2011, you will be required to show evidence that you have received the bacterial meningitis vaccination or that you are eligible for an exemption prior to enrolling. If you are 30 or over, this law does not apply to you. The vaccination dose or booster must have been given during the five-year period preceding and at least 10 days prior to the first day of class or prior to moving into on-campus housing (whichever is applicable). If you are taking online courses only (no on-campus   courses), you are not required to have the vaccination. Send evidence of the vaccination or qualified exemption to UTPB Admissions, 4901 E University Blvd, Odessa, TX 79762.

Many students can obtain the vaccination through their physician and for some it is covered by insurance. If you are an Ector County resident and if you are uninsured or under insured, you may be able to get the vaccine through our County Health Department. Other students should check with their county health services for vaccinations. It is recommended that students considering enrolling obtain the vaccination as soon as possible so that registration will not be delayed.
