Part 2
The Vice President for Academic Affairs reports directly to the President and
is responsible for all the academic programs on campus. This involves,
for both undergraduate and graduate levels, all the academic units,
curricula, faculty, instructional administration, library, academic
computing, research, and budgetary matters pertaining thereto.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Recommend to the President all personnel appointments in the
areas of responsibility.
- Provide leadership in all curricular areas, in concert with
faculty leadership in academic discipline areas.
- Provide leadership in academic budgetary matters, in concert
with appropriate leadership in the various areas.
- Recommend to the President on matters of faculty evaluation,
tenure and promotion, and appropriate salary increases for all
faculty, including instructional administrators.
- Recommend to the President on matters of evaluation, promotion,
and salary increases for academic personnel other than faculty.
- Provide leadership in all matters related to summer sessions,
in concert with appropriate instructional administrators.
- Provide leadership in faculty professional growth and development,
in concert with faculty leadership in academic discipline areas.
- Provide leadership in all academic program accreditation matters.
- Provide leadership as necessary for graduate programs.
- Advise the President on academic matters as the need arises.
- Serve as the lead strategic planner for The University.
- Represent The University at appropriate University of Texas
System meetings and groups.
- Serve as liaison with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board as appropriate.
- Represent The University to the public as assigned by the
President.
- Assume primary responsibility for The University catalogue,
gathering and editing information to be included in each edition.
- Be responsible and accountable for ensuring that appropriate
internal controls are implemented and monitored in all academic
areas of The University.
