UTPB

Welcome

President
Dr. David Watts

Welcome to the University of Texas of the Permian Basin’s SACS reaffirmation web site. We will be actively engaged in the process of reaccreditation for the next three years although planning has been underway for some time now. Being reaffirmed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is vital to the health of the University. Nothing that we do in the next three years is important as reaccreditation. Through accreditation with SACS we affirm to each and every one of our constituencies that we have the programs and supporting practices to attain our objectives as an institution.

We have been actively involved in strategic planning for several years now. Our Compact with the University of Texas System is the short-term implementation of our planning. What we do with the next few years is crucial for UTPB. Throughout the reaffirmation process we need to rededicate our efforts to support the planning efforts we already have underway. Since we will do a complete institutional review it will be an unparalleled opportunity to make the connections between our planning and our daily work.

Through our Compliance Certification we will document that we are effective, efficient and focused on the future. All of our programs, policies, procedures, services and activities should be examined. Our programs and services need to demonstrate the best practices available in teaching, learning, research, service, and management. With the help of everyone at UTPB, we can document our commitment to planning, assessment and continuous improvement. It will require that each of us spend both time and effort to make sure that we not only meet the standards, but can document that compliance.

The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) should describe a model program that will make a real difference in our students’ learning. Everyone including faculty, staff, students and alumni need to be involved in the development and implementation of the plan. The program needs to be congruent with our institutional planning and assessment, and it needs to demonstrate our very real commitment to our students’ learning. The QEP program will be funded and supported for a minimum of five to seven years, and it represents an incredible opportunity to do something significant for our students. I expect the program will become a permanent part of our efforts to provide our students with the best possible learning experience.

The reaffirmation process is an opportunity to reflect on the many ways our day-to-day work supports our goals as an institution and the quality enhancement that is the foundation of the Principles. Please commit your time and efforts over the next three years to making this reaffirmation effort a success. This website will help you to understand the components and timing of the reaccreditation process. It will keep you abreast of the many activities that are underway and provide you with the opportunity to be a contributor to the process. If you have questions about any aspect of reaffirmation, please contact our SACS liaison, Denise Watts.
