Camp Falcon
For youngsters from Kindergarden through 6th grade, activities will entertain and incite their curiosity with programs such as Mad Scientist with NASA and FORENSICS, arts and crafts, sports activities, fine arts, and of course, swimming. Camp Falcon is open daily from 7:30am until 5:30pm Monday through Friday to provide service to working parents. The first session is June 1-26, and the second is June 29-July 24. The cost is $495 per session.

Camp Falcon is still the best place in town for safe, fun, and quality environment for your child.
UTPB - ECISD Math Bootcamp
This mathematics-focused enrichment program is sponsored by ECISD and UTPB for 120 sixth graders from June 8-12. One of the objectives for this program is to get students involved in math. Calculus 2 in high school can be an ultimate goal for all students pursuing STEM careers. For more information about the selection process at ECISD, contact Jennifer Seybert at 332-9151. You can also reach UTPB Continuing Education Director Rey Lascano at 552-2555 for other questions related to the program.
Summer Bridge
Merriam Webster lists one definition of "bridge" as "a time, place, or means of connection or transition." Therefore, UTPB's free Summer Bridge Program gives students from grades 9-12 and incoming freshman a pathway to help them be successful academically. In addition, instruction on how to apply for scholarships and assistance will help them become financially prepared for life at the university level.
During the week-long event, students will receive study materials to prepare them for college and will gain insight to help them study for Texas entrance exams like the SAT, ACT, THEA, and COMPASS. They will meet working professionals and network with other students to help them consider options for various careers and majors. Details concerning how to apply for admission, how to study at the university level, and how to master "the college system" will also be provided to Summer Bridge students.
Prospective students need to apply through their high school counselors. Although applications are not due until May 16, space is limited, so early applications are recommended. The program will be held from 9am-4pm and each high school student that completes Summer Bridge will earn a $500 scholarship to UTPB for his/her first fall semester after high school graduation. The program will be held June 1-5 for 2009, 2010, and 2011 graduates, and June 8-12 or June 15-19 for entering freshmen and sophomores.
For more information, contact your high school counselor or call UTPB Admissions Office at 432-552-2605.
TEX PREP I (Texas Pre-freshman Engineering Program)
A total of 100 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students from ECISD, MISD, and surrounding counties will be able to participate in UTPB's first offering of this free academic enrichment program June 22-August7 from 9:00am until 3:25pm with free breakfast and lunch served.
The purpose of the Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program (Tex PREP) is to provide students who have demonstrated mathematical ability with the academic and intellectual competencies to succeed in high school, college prep courses, and in college programs in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Students follow the curriculum provided by Tex PREP and endorsed by the Texas Education Agency. The T.E.A. also provides on elective credit after completion of the course which can count toward high school graduation. Students are exposed to effective procedures for solving engineering and design problems using mathematics, computers, basic measuring systems, and devices, computational tools, and statistical concepts. The lab introduces Tex PREP students to the engineering profession while demanstrating the roles and responsibilities associated with it.
Students need a recommendation (included in the application forms) from a mathematics teacher and the second recommendation from an administrator, counselor, science, or English teacher.
Tex PREP has unique features that include introduction to engineering (taught by engineering faculty), computer science, the "INFINITY" engineering program for secondary public school students, and mathematics taught by teachers from various school districts. Hands-on projects like building hover-crafts and trebuchets will be supervised and guided by engineers. Career presentations will be conducted by professionals in the STEM field. Optional field trips are also included.
There is no cost for this "engineering camp", but space is limited and students will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Visit the Continuing Education website for more information.
Engineering Summer Program
Now that UTPB offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with or without a nuclear emphasis, the University qualifies under the Texas Education Code to offer the Engineering Summer Program. This one week program will be held June 8th-12th from 9am to 4:30pm in the GAB complex at UTPB.
A total of 30 students in grades 10th, 11th, and 12th from ECISD and MISD will be exposed to professional engineers and scientists and work as teams on various projects. These professionals will also touch on career opportunities (at least 20 types of engineering) in the public and private sectors. At the end of the ESP, students will receive a $500 book scholarship, information about financial aid, and the college application process. Other types of information about the UTPB Nuclear Regulatory Commission Scholarship and other opportunities will be shared with students.
This program is funded by a grant received by UTPB, so there is no cost to students and breakfast and lunch are provided. For more information, visit the Continuing Education Website.
Ht3R Summer 2009 Program
This program is multifaceted to match the many levels of students involved in or entering mechanical engineering with nuclear emphasis at UTPB.
- "Senior" students will be conducting research using UT Austin's Ranger supercomputer to understand and streamline nuclear reactor power production tuning and modifications as well as internships at industry locations
- "Intermediate" students will be engaged in work with circuits, motors, and reactor research
- "New" students will be exposed to introductory engineering concepts, projects, and supporting mathematics.
This program is aimed at enhancing both the knowledge base and enthusiasm of these students. These activities start in May and continue throughout the summer. The duration and scheduling varies as each requires. For more information, please call the HT3R Office at 432-552-2090.
