On Tuesday, January 12, at 4 p.m., the public is invited to UTPB’s CEED Building to sign the giant rigging beam for the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center before it is hoisted into position on the nearby site (at Hwy. 191 and FM 1288).
This Topping Out Ceremony is a construction tradition, and for this project it involves the largest and heaviest beam in the structure, measuring 47’ x 38” and weighing 34,000 lbs.
From 4 to 4:30 p.m., all spectators will be able to sign their names on the beam before it is moved onto the construction site. If weather permits, guests are invited to stay to witness and applaud as the beam is “flown” into its final position approximately 80 feet above the ground, just after 5 p.m.
