UTPB joins the NCAA

On Wednesday, July 12, 2006, The University of Texas of the Permian Basin received a phone call from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) officially accepting UTPB as a member at the Division II level.

UTPB will be a member of the Heartland Conference, which is made up of:

• Dallas Baptist University
• University of the Incarnate Word
• Lincoln University
• Montana State University
• Oklahoma Panhandle State University
• St. Edward’s University
• St. Mary’s University
• Newman University
• Texas A&M International
• The University of Texas of the Permian Basin

Conference rivals Texas A&M International University and UTPB will join Newman University as former NAIA school moving to the NCAA and the Heartland Conference.

Newman will not compete in the Heartland this upcoming year, but will be on the schedule next fall.
