Our Mission Statement:
Founded
in 2004, the music division of UTPB is dedicated to helping
students achieve their full potential
in music and offers a supportive learning environment
with the highest professional standards, small classes,
and hands-on
practical experience. The University, proud of its
accomplished music faculty, provides education programs of
study at
the undergraduate level. The mission of the music division
at UTPB
includes recruiting musically talented youth, fostering
musical activity on campus and in the community, encouraging
scholarly
research in music, utilizing technology in teaching
and learning environments, and educating our students to
a high
level of
accomplishment as musicians, scholars, and teachers.
The
Objectives to Achieve that Mission:
1) Compete for the best and most talented student-musicians.
2) Establish music scholarships for undergraduate music
students at UTPB
3) Create and implement a music curriculum at UTPB
4) Build a music education research program worth of
praise and recognition on the regional and state level.
5) Establish student-based music clubs
6) Establishment of programs that bring junior high,
high school, and public school music teachers to campus
for participation
in music events such as honor bands, honor choirs,
solo and small ensemble contests, music camps, Kodaly
teaching
workshops,
or jazz clinics.
7) Recruit and hire highly qualified, energetic, motivated,
and dedicated faculty to teach applied lessons, adjunct
courses, and guest lecture.
8) Develop an identity and on-campus culture for the
music program at UTPB.
9) Allow students the opportunity to create digital
videos of their teaching or conducting and place them
on the
web as part of their professional portfolios.
10) Continue the philosophy of community service in
each of the performing ensembles.
11) Enhance community relations with the music program
in both Midland and Odessa.
12) Develop a quality, interactive, and informative
Music Program Website.
13) Develop partnerships with other institutions of
higher education.
14) Faculty growth to include another tenure-track
faculty member. |
