F.A.Q.s

1.   If an event is held on campus, a Physical Plant utility operator must be present.  After-hours air conditioning or heat will incur a fee charged for the utility operator, and may incur a charge for the actual utility use.  Fees are based on the standard hourly rate established by the Physical Plant Director in September of each year.  Normal operating hours are determined by the Library’s schedule.  Event coordinators should make every attempt to plan activities during these times.

 

2.  A temperature range between 68 and 75 degrees is considered normal in most rooms.

 

3.  Physical Plant does not stock office supplies, cleaning products, extension cords or furniture.  These are departmental responsibilities.   

 

4. If it involves fire, water, or blood – it’s an emergency!  Please treat it as such.  If you use a fire extinguisher or call an ambulance, call us too!  Conversely, hanging a picture in your office is not an emergency and will be scheduled on a fill-in basis.

 

5.  If you see dead or injured animals, call Physical Plant.  Please don’t touch them!

 

6.  For custodial issues, call us.  We’ll take care of contacting the custodial staff.  If there is a spill on the floor or if a toner cartridge explodes, we do want to know! And remember, we do not provide cleaning services for occupants of Student Housing.

 

7.  Not everyone is permitted to drive a UTPB rental vehicle.  There are rules that must be followed.  Call Physical Plant to find out what rules apply and to whom.

 

8.  We have over 200 toilets and 1 plumber.  We have thousands of electrical outlets and 1 electrician.  Please be patient – we really will put your stopped-up toilet or outlet with no power at the top of our priority list – but perhaps when you call, we are already working on another top priority!

 

9.  We do not handle key assists – if you need entry into an office or other space, please call the Police Department at x2786.  Also, please call the Police Department if you lock your keys in your car or have a flat tire or other car trouble.

 

10.  If we don’t know about the problem, we can’t fix it!  We would rather get 100 phone calls about an overflowing toilet than none.  Really!!

 

11.  Never park on the grass or dirt!  Stay on the roadways for everyone’s safety.

 

12.  Space heaters are NOT allowed!  Never – ever – don’t even ask!!

 

13.  Work orders should always be called in to x2760 during normal business hours.  That line is always answered and you will most likely speak to a “real” person who will issue the work request.  Leaving a message on another extension number or sending an email may get the problem fixed next week - after they return from vacation!

 

14.  NO candles – scented or unscented, burning or not – are ever allowed anywhere!

 

15.  Physical Plant does not fix computers or telephones.  Please call IRD for these repair requests.
