The University of Texas of the Permian Basin was awarded a grant by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to implement a scholarship for first generation students at UTPB. The THECB awarded the University $25,000 and UTPB matched this amount with $25,000 while the Mexican American Scholarship Committee and the West Texas Association for Bilingual Education donated $500 each, for a total of $51,000. One hundred students will receive $500 scholarships for the 2005-2006 school year. All first-generation college students will be eligible to apply. Freshmen are encouraged to submit applications.
