Welcome to the University of Texas
of the Permian Basin. This is an exciting university in the
heart of West Texas. UT Permian Basin is committed to a quality
education for all its students, to providing degree programs
that serve the needs of Texas and beyond, and to supporting
and assisting with the economic development and diversification
of this region. Our programs and faculty are committed to
research and service that is grounded in the region.
One of UT Permian Basin's premier
program's is the John Ben Shepperd
Public Leadership Institute, which offers seminars, training
and research on public leadership all over Texas. Nationally
recognized, the Institute also offers a BA degree in Leadership
Studies.
As you review our Web site, you'll
find a state-of-the art library lecture center, a new, world-class
visual arts complex and a newly completed student center.
The addition of buildings and programs expresses UT Permian
Basin's commitment to Texas and its students. Check out our
sports programs. In Fall 2001, we began our first season with
women's
soccer. Fall 2002, we started competition with men's and
women's basketball, and in Fall 2003 men's and women's swimming
will begin. In the 2004-2005 season, men's baseball will inaugurate
intercollegiate competition.
Whether you're in West Texas or
the other side of the world, the university offers an outstanding,
award winning distance education
program. In August 2001, the University of Texas TeleCampus
awarded UT Permian Basin its award for commitment to excellence.
In 2002, UT Permian Basin won the US Distance Learning Associations
outstanding program, and in 2002-2003, Dr. Lois Hale was awarded
the Excellence in Teaching Award by the UT TeleCampus.
We are growing our student housing by leaps and bounds. By
Fall 2004, UT Permian Basin will add six apartment-style buildings
and a club house serving 198 additional residents of campus.
UT Permian Basin offers a rich variety of education opportunities,
including on campus, on the Web
and through our interactive television system.
This is an exciting time to be
at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Come join
us.
