Transfer Admission Requirements

A transfer student is defined as any student new to UT Permian Basin who has ever enrolled at another college or university prior to attendance at UT Permian Basin and who has completed 24 or more semester hours of college-level work.

UT Permian Basin evaluates credit only from generally accepted academic institutions with regional accreditation. Applicants must submit records of all accredited institutions attended, even if they do not wish to transfer the credit to UT Permian Basin.

Transfer Students with 24 or more semester hours of college work must:
  1. Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 (C) on a 4.0 grading system.
  2. Be eligible to re-enroll in the colleges previously attended.
  3. Provisional Admission

In some cases, students that do not meet the minimum grade point requirement may be admitted provisionally. Students who are admitted provisionally must complete the first 12 semester hours with grades of "C" or better in each course in order to be removed from provisional status and in order to be allowed to enroll in subsequent terms.

Academic Fresh Start

Texas residents may apply for admission to UT Permian Basin under the Academic Fresh Start statute (Texas Education Code, Sec. 5.929). Under this program, residents are permitted to apply for admission and enroll as undergraduate students; and, academic course credits or grades earned 10 or more years prior to the semester for which the students seek enrollment are not considered for admission purposes. Applicants seeking admission under the Academic Fresh Start statute must inform the Office of Admissions in writing of their intent.

Other standard admissions criteria generally applied to persons seeking admission to the University are not affected by this plan. If a student who enrolls under this program completes a prescribed course of study, earns a baccalaureate degree, and applies for admission to a postgraduate or professional program offered by a public institution of higher education, the admitting institution will consider only the grade point average of the applicant established by the course work completed after the student enrolled under this plan (along with other criteria the institution normally uses to evaluate applications for admission.)
