Q3: How much is your application fee?
A: There is no application fee (subject to change) for either graduates or undergraduates.
Q4: How soon do I need to submit my admission application?
A: Applicants should apply for admission at least six months before the anticipated
enrollment date and should arrange to have test scores and academic records received
by the Office of Admissions no later than 60 days before the enrollment date. However,
application deadline for the fall semester is July 15, for the spring Semester, November
15 and for the summer Term, April 15.
Q5: What kind of documents must I present in order to be considered for admission?
A: All of the following documents must be received before an admission decision is made
(verification of credentials may also be required):
- Yearly secondary school records and national examination results.
Certified transcripts of student's academic record (mark sheets)
from universities previously attended in the home country must be
submitted. Both a copy of the official foreign academic record and
an official English translation must be included. Moreover, where
university level studies are to be considered for possible undergraduate
transfer credit, a syllabus, catalog or similar bulletin must be
submitted that describes the courses in sufficient detail for proper
evaluation.
- Signed statements guaranteeing the student's ability to pay expenses
while at UT Permian Basin must be accompanied by supporting documentation
such as a current letter from a bank or other reliable institution
or from the sponsor's employer. A minimum of $16,000 (US dollars) per year
must be available to cover educational and personal expenses. (Photocopies
of support statements furnished to meet another university's requirements
are not acceptable.)
- The University has no financial aid available for international
students.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores must be submitted
before admission will be granted. Minimum score for admission consideration
is 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based). Information concerning
the TOEFL may be obtained by writing to: TOEFL, Box 899, Princeton,
NJ 08540. (The University of Texas of the Permian Basin institution
number: 6914.)
- Entering freshmen must submit standardized test scores when required
- SAT exam. The minimum acceptable score on the SAT is 900 for students
from a non-English speaking country.
- It is compulsory for international students on F-1 visas to have
medical hospitalization and repatriation insurance for themselves.
Insurance for dependents is optional. Students on J-1 visas are
required to carry medical, hospitalization and repatriation insurance
for themselves and their dependents.
- Students on F-1 visas do not normally have employment privileges.
Government regulations require international students to certify
that they have finances deemed sufficient by the University to pursue
a full course of study without employment. Thus, international students
should not expect to support themselves through employment while
attending the University. International students may request permission
to seek employment while attending the university after they have
completed one academic year of study. See the International Student
Advisor.
Q6: What happens once it is determined that I meet admission requirements?
A: You will be mailed a letter of acceptance noting the term for which you are
being admitted. You will also be given the name of your faculty adviser.
Q7: What do I need to do to obtain my student visa?
A: Included with your admission letter will be the I-20 immigration form
(or DS-2019 if you are a government or otherwise sponsored student). The I-20 must
be taken to the US Consulate Office closest to you in order to obtain your student
visa (F-1). (DS2019 for the J-1 visa)
Q8: What can I do if I have already been issued a student visa using an I-20 (DS2019) that
was sent to me by another school and I want to attend UTPB?
A: You must return to the US Consulate Office and let them know that you prefer to attend
UTPB. They will make the change. Note that you must attend the college or university whose
I-20(DS2091) you used to obtain your visa.
Q9: What is the name of the airport in Odessa?
A: The name of the airport is Midland International Airport and is located in Midland,
Texas. It is 10 miles from the University. American Airlines, Continental Airlines and
Southwest Airlines serve the airport.
Q10: Will someone meet me at the airport to take me to the University or do I take a taxi?
A: Taxicab fares are expensive in the US so it is better not to take a taxicab. We
will be happy to send someone to pick you up. You must send us your itinerary as soon as
it is known. It is better if you send it by e-mail (admissions@utpb.edu)
or send it by fax to 1-432-552-3605. It should arrive in our office NO LATER than one week before your scheduled arrival.
Q11: How much will I be expected to pay for the classes in which I enroll?
A: Presently undergraduate tuition for 15 semester hours (one semester) is $6300. Graduate
