Applied Psychology Laboratory
The Applied Psychology Laboratory of the University of Texas of
the Permian Basin is designed to facilitate psychological research
at the university. This research can be divided into three
areas:
-
Applied Psychological Research for the Community
-
Applied Psychological Research for the University
-
Student and Faculty Research
At this time the Applied Psychology program is accepting proposals
from organizations from the community and organizations within the
university for projects for us to do. Each project will be
completed by a team of qualified graduate and undergraduate students
under the supervision of a faculty advisor. Students often
receive academic credit for their time and effort, and consequently,
project costs are usually low. Projects that some of our students
have worked on in the past have included a survey of volunteers
for the American Red Cross, a knowledge inventory for a local hospital,
a research project on ethnic identity in conjunction with Title
III, a resource assessment for the United Way, an analysis of the
Graduating Senior Questionnaire for the university, and a project
on retention of freshmen at the university.
The Applied Psychology Laboratory is equipped with a very advanced
classroom/meeting room suitable for groups of less than 40.
Although normally this room has tables and chairs, they can be removed
to provide a larger experimental area. This meeting room has
access to a Computer on Wheels, TV/VCRs, and other amenities which
make the Laboratory useful for high-tech presentations. The
Laboratory also has several small rooms attached to the main room
for individual work or small group interactions. Furthermore,
the Laboratory has a small computer center with up-to-date PC and
Macintosh computers for assistance with data analysis and report
generation.
