Frequently Asked Questions

Do you give athletic scholarships?
A limited amount of scholarship money is available in all sports for exceptional student athletes. Athletic scholarships may NOT be combined with academic scholarship awards.

How big is UTPB?
UTPB has approximately 3,100 students.

How much does it cost to attend UTPB?
Tuition and fees run about $2,000 a semester (15 credits). On-campus housing runs around $1400 a semester. Books may average $500 a semester. A reasonable (but Spartan) cost estimate for the year would be $8,000 plus food. UTPB costs less than half as much to attend as the private institutions in West Texas.

How can I pay for college without an athletic scholarship?
Students can receive academic scholarships if they are in the top 25% of their senior class. Students can get very generous scholarships if they are in the top 10% of their class. Pell grants, Texas grants and other grants are available for low-income students. Loans and work-study jobs are also available to UTPB students.

Where is UTPB?
UTPB is located in Odessa, Texas. Odessa is a town of nearly 100,000. It is about two hours south of Lubbock, five hours north of San Antonio, five hours east of El Paso, five hours west of Dallas and five hours northwest of Austin. Maps are provided on the link titled “Maps” on the menu at left.
