Information for Incoming Freshmen
Contact Restrictions
If you are freshman or sophomore we cannot speak to you about athletics, write you or call you. If you are a junior, we may write you but cannot call you. You can call and speak to our staff. If you are a senior, we may write and call you. We are limited to making one phone call to a recruit each week.
General Freshman Eligibility Requirements As an incoming freshman who desires to participate in NCAA Division II athletics, you must be cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse in order to play as a freshman.
Here is a link to the Clearinghouse website. If you are a senior in high school you should sign up as soon as possible in order to reduce any potential delays in the processing of your application.

You must send in an official high school transcript to the NCAA Clearinghouse.
You must have an official SAT or ACT score sent directly from the testing agency to the NCAA
Clearinghouse. If you have not yet taken an ACT or SAT, do so as soon as possible. Here are links to the SAT and ACT registration pages:

ACT: http://www.actstudent.org/index.html
As soon as you graduate from high school you must send the Clearinghouse your final transcript before the certification process can be completed.
If you have taken any college work while in high school, your college transcripts must also be sent to the clearinghouse before final certification is completed.
Generally to be able to practice and play at an NCAA II school you must:
- Have at least a 2.0 GPA in an academic core of 14 high school courses
- Have an SAT of 820+ (verbal and math scores only) or a composite ACT of 68+. The SAT or ACT must be taken on a national testing date.
- Generally, if you are taking the recommended or distinguished curriculum in Texas High Schools, you will have completed the 14 core course requirement.
- You must complete the NCAA Amateurism Certification questionnaire with the clearinghouse and be classified as an amateur.

Financial Aid Information
We have a LIMITED number of athletic scholarships and as a general rule our scholarships are broken up and shared with several players on a team. Athletic Scholarships cannot be combined with academic awards.
If you are in the top 50% of your graduating class, you will qualify for a freshman grant. It is worth $2000 a year and is renewable each year if you maintain an overall UTPB GPA of 3.0 and pass 30 credits a semester. There are limited numbers of Presidential and Presidential Plus awards available for students in the top 10% of their graduating class and excellent SAT/ACT scores. These awards are quite competitive. If you live in the Permian Basin , are in the top 10% of your class, and have excellent test scores, you should apply for a Permian Honors Foundation scholarship.
If you receive an athletic or academic scholarship you are required to live on campus unless you are from the Midland-Odessa area and living with family or qualify for an exception.
If you receive an academic or athletic award for $2000 or more, out of state tuition is waived. As a general rule, out of state tuition is not waived during the summer.
