Coaching Philosophy Link
Pam Gray enters her 4th year as Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/Track Coach at UTPB, and enters her 27 th year as a Cross Country/Track & Field Coach. She also serves as Faculty in Kinesiology, Forms of Movement Coordinator, and Senior Women’s Administrator in Athletics.

Before coming to UTPB, Coach Gray’s 26 years of experience included positions as the Head Men’s and Women’s CC Coach at Peru State College, and Head Assistant Coach at McPherson College . She served as a Head Assistant CC/Track Coach at Lindenwood University , Hastings College , and Minnesota State University , Mankato . Gray is a Level I and II Certified USA Track & Field Coach and an Instructor for Level II Endurance Events.

She has coached 185 Qualifiers to the NAIA national meet at various distances from 800 meters through the Marathon , Cross Country and Track & Field. She has coached 121 NAIA All-Americans and 3 National Champions. Her previous NCAA DII experience includes 35 National Meet Qualifiers and 25 NCAA All-Americans. She has worked with 14 athletes who have been or went on to the Olympic Level.

Coach Gray trained for the 1988 and 1992 U.S. Olympic marathon trials and was selected in 1991 by USA Track and Field as one of three women to serve as a lecturer/clinician for the Elite Athlete Training Program of the USATF Coaching Education Program. Gray was a 15 year member of Team Etonic’s National Road Racing Team and was a 4 year Power Bar Team Elite Endurance Runner.

She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse with a B.S. in Physical Education/Coaching the Competitive Athlete in 1983 and a M.S. in Physical Education-Human Performance in 1989. Gray was a four-year letter winner and team captain in cross country at the University of Wisconsin -  LaCrosse.

UTPB Athletic Director, Steve Aicinena, stated, “Pam has been a great addition to our Athletic Department and our Kinesiology Department. She has a wealth of experiences in cross country, track, and in the classroom. She has been well liked by students, athletes and administrators with whom she has worked.”

Coach Gray lives in Midland, TX with her daughter, Britni, 18.

Our goal is to promote distance running with a Team/Family atmosphere. I am here to provide athletes with current and state of the art training principles (USA Track & Field Endurance Emphasized).

Whether you are a developing collegiate runner or new to the sport of Cross Country, this program will help you gain insight to who you are as an athlete and person. You will gain many advantages in your knowledge, skill, and spirit of running. Life-Long learning in running and life experiences will be developed under my guidance”.
