Online Superintendent Certification Program in Texas

Earn your Superintendent Certification

Degree candidates in the Master of Arts in Educational Leadership can become eligible to work towards their superintendent certification. This path will develop a school leader who will promote the success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision that is supported by the school community.

Superintendent Practicum experiences are integrated into each course. The program includes more than 200 hours of field experiences applying the educational leadership skills required for district level leadership.

Superintendent Certification Requirements - Eligible candidates almost always live and work in Texas*

  • Must have a Master’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Must have valid Mid-Management, Principal, or Principal as Instructional Leader certification.
  • Must qualify for admission to Graduate Studies at UTPB.
  • Students must complete 16 semester credit hours of coursework.

In addition to completing course requirements, candidates for certification as a Superintendent must earn a passing score on the Texas Superintendent Certification exam.

If you are not certified and/or do not work on a Texas Education Agency (TEA) approved** campus, you are almost certainly not eligible for Superintendent Certification in Texas. Please consult with program faculty before applying.

** (approved campuses include any public ISD in Texas, any TEA approved charter school or private school, and DoDEA schools)
