Dear Students,

I’m writing to follow up on President Woodley’s message today and provide some additional information. As always, please let me know what questions or concerns are on your mind so I can help.

Can student workers continue with their on-campus jobs?

First, if you can come to work, please do!  If you cannot make it to campus, then see below for options based on the particulars of your position.

  • For Federal Work StudyFederal law includes a provision allowing an institution to make work study payments, under certain limited circumstances, to disaster-affected students who are unable to continue working. If you cannot work because you have left the area, then please notify finaid@utpb.edu and we can work with you regarding allowing you to be paid.
  • For Departmental Student Worker: If you are a departmental student worker (hired outside of your financial aid package), please work with your supervisor on your plans.

What if I can’t afford to handle the changes that are brought on by the COVID-19 reality?

We recognize that these changes may cause financial challenges for you.  If you find yourself in emergency circumstances due to this specific reason, please complete a “Special Circumstances Emergency Grant” request.

Are Counseling Services available?

We have counseling services available. If you need support but can’t make it to a face to face appointment, we can facilitate a session using a secure online platform.  To schedule an appointment, contact Counseling Services at carrillo_v@utpb.edu or by calling 432-552-3365. As our instruction moves on-line, how can I get help with the technology that’s required to do my work?

In order to access necessary online systems, you will need access to a computer and Wi-Fi.  A tablet, Chromebook, or phone will not run all the necessary software. If you believe you will have difficulty accessing a computer and/or Wi-Fi, please fill out this short survey so we can learn more.

What if I feel sick?

Please view this flyer that outlines the steps you should take.

Will the mail center remain open?

The student mail center will continue to be open.  Questions about your mail should be directed to (432) 552-3746.

On-Campus Housing Questions

Q: If a student living on campus moves out, will there be a refund?

A: We have not made any decisions about whether refunds for rooms or meal plans will be offered.  We are considering these questions and will announce more information soon.

Q: Is there a particular day for getting your belongings from campus, if you choose to return home?

A: Campus housing is open, so students can come on their own schedule to gather their belongings through May 11, when the spring housing term closes.

Q: Will we ship items to students?

A: We are focused on the immediate needs of our students. If you need something urgently that is in your room but you aren’t returning to campus right now, please contact Residence Life at (432) 552-2743 or housing@utpb.edu.
