Abusaabs donate to UTPB

Mike and Sheila Abusaab and Al Hamad with Sonic Drive-ins invest in UTPB. "We believe in education." said Mike Abusaab in a check presentation to David Watts, president of UTPB. The donation is a continuing commitment by the Abusaabs to education and scholarships at UTPB.

The U.S. Department of Education announced on Monday that UTPB will receive a grant for $2.546 million to strengthen and expand educational opportunities for Hispanic and low-income students. The UTPB HSI grant will establish a program entitled Linking & Advancing Student Success Opportunities (LASSO) which expands higher educational opportunities and significantly increase students’ academic success through access to critical services.

JBS Distinguished Lecture

On Thursday, October 22, 2015, as part of the Shepperd Distinguished Lecture Series, UTPB’s John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute will host an upcoming lecture featuring one of the most beloved and admired American First Ladies, Mrs. Laura W. Bush. For decades Laura Bush has championed key issues in the fields of education, health care, and human rights.

The More You Know

The Student Engagement Team (SET) at UTPB is partnering with student groups and the campus community to participate in National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Bullying Prevention Month, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October. SET believes the more informed students are, the more empowered they are to make good decisions and take care of each other; therefore, the theme for October is The More You Know.

Education Foundation Check

The Education Foundation presented a check in the amount of $50,000 to UTPB on Wednesday, September 2nd. The funds are used to match scholarship dollars raised by UTPB and are given out as scholarships to ECISD graduates. Students interested in this scholarship are encouraged to contact the UTPB financial aid office.

MyUTPB to Replace Campus Connect

Big changes are coming for students and how you access your information. By fall 2015, Campus Connect will be replaced with a new student portal, MyUTPB. This means fall class registration must be done through MyUTPB - not Campus Connect. Starting April 1st, anything regarding the fall 2015 semester and beyond will only be accessible through MyUTPB.

Campus Carry Law

The Campus Carry Law (SB11) is being discussed on campus by students, faculty and staff.  The law goes into effect August 1, 2016.  President W. David Watts has established a Campus Carry Committee that will recommend to him S.B. 11 implementation policies by the end of November. The campus carry committee will hold a number forums on campus and welcomes your comments through an online survey.
