"We went through this whole regular season and came out of it sharing the top spot!" said Head Tennis Coach Alex Hunt.

For the first time in UT Permian Basin athletics history, two teams were named Lone Star Conference (LSC) Champions in the same year.

On Sunday, the UT Permian Basin men's tennis team took down St. Mary's 5-2, finishing the regular season with a 7-1 conference record - The team later found out that Midwestern State, who was 7-0 in LSC play heading into Sunday, lost 4-3 to Cameron earlier that day.

The team had already beaten Cameron 5-2 on Friday (Mar. 29), meaning the Falcons were named LSC Co-Champions for the first time in program history.

"One of our goals at the beginning of the year was to win the LSC regular season title outright. But, we are pumped to be co-champions," said Head Women's and Men's Tennis Coach Alex Hunt.

Tournament season

While the Falcons are excited about being crowned Co-Champions, they are now focused on trying to win the LSC tournament, which will start on Thursday (Apr. 25).

"We went through this whole regular season and came out of it sharing the top spot! We learned a lot of lessons that I feel will prepare us to make a run at the prized tournament championship later this week," said Coach Hunt. "We are pleased with where we are right now, but nowhere near satisfied. We have many goals ahead of us we've yet to achieve."

The Falcons enter the tournament as the two seed, since they lost the head-to-head match-up against Midwestern State. In the quarterfinal match, the Falcons will face Arkansas Fort Smith at 3:30 p.m., with the winner of that match facing either UT Tyler or St. Mary's on Friday (Apr. 26) at 1 p.m.

Additionally, the women's tennis team also made the LSC tournament as the eight seed and will be playing Midwestern State on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
