UT Permian Basin will move to remote learning and work due to severe weather



Weather conditions are expected to worsen throughout the day. For this reason, we are closing the University at 3:00 p.m. today, February 2 and we’ll be learning and working remotely Thursday and Friday. Below you’ll find specific information: 


In-person Classes: Beginning at 3:00 p.m. today (Wednesday), all in-person classes will shift to remote learning. That will continue Thursday and Friday. No work or classes will take place on campus for the rest of this week. Students have been instructed to monitor email and Canvas for information from faculty.  


Online Classes: All online classes will continue as normal.   


Academic Support: Students can access tutoring through the SmartThinking link in any Canvas class.  For writing help, you can always email the online writing lab at, and any general questions and issues can be sent to  


Any student who loses power or cannot access Canvas should notify once they regain access, and we will work with them and their instructors. 


University Offices: Offices will close at 3:00 pm today. Beginning Thursday morning, staff will be available remotely.

Gym and Fitness Center: The gym and fitness centers will be closed. 


Library: The library will be closed, but staff are working remotely. If you need assistance, you can reach them at or 432-552-2370. 


Student Activity Center: The Student Activity Center will remain open; however, all dining and recreation facilities in the SAC will be closed on Thursday and Friday. 


On-Campus Dining: Falcon Café will be the only location open today, Thursday and Friday with normal hours: 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.  


Food Pantry: As a reminder, the food pantry is open today from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.   


STEM: The STEM Academy will make decisions consistent with their normal protocols which follow ECISD. STEM families will receive a separate email from Superintendent Davidson.
