“Being familiar with and having knowledge of the district and West Texas has allowed me to transition because I am already familiar with the work that has been going on in the Permian Basin. Seeing familiar faces and meeting new members of our team has been refreshing. I have not met anyone who is not ready to do the work it’s going to take to move Midland ISD forward.”

The Principal Certification Program at UTPB helps students learn how to successfully lead a school. Once complete, graduates will have the skills to promote the success of all students by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a healthy school culture. Graduates will also be able to ensure the management of the schools, operations, and resources to provide a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment. The online program consists of 27 credit hours of course work.

The Superintendent Certification Program at UTPB is a 16-credit program designed for principals and assistant principals who want to strengthen their skills as school leaders in their district. This certification can be earned in two semesters and is one of the only four-course programs in the state that maintains a practicum component throughout.

At The University of Texas Permian Basin, we’re training the next leaders in education. Dr. Howard said she would encourage anyone to choose UTPB not only because of the endless amounts of opportunities but also because of the affordability.

“I was part of a very strong cohort of leaders, many of which are still leading in the Permian Basin. The cost of the tuition is low, and the opportunities afforded to graduates of UTPB are endless.”
