The conference was held on the UT Permian Basin campus on July 21 and 22.

UT Permian Basin’s College of Education is pleased to have hosted The Consortium for Belize Education Cooperation (COBEC) in West Texas.

We want to thank all our wonderful presenters who attended the COBEC conference last Thursday, July 21st and Friday, July 22nd. COBEC is a unique educational partnership between the nation of Belize and institutions of higher education in the United States. The goal of the conference is to provide professional development training, develop programs that address student needs, improve curriculum development, and much more.

The conference helped promote connections between higher educational institutions and the community. COBEC members saw the need to have partnerships with different higher education institutions in the United States to expand education in Belize. This has provided several study abroad opportunities between Belize and universities in the United States.

UT Permian Basin faculty and community partners hosted several different events throughout the conference including instructional improvement and innovation, engaging alumni, implementing trauma-informed teaching, pandemic and online learning, and much more.

Dr. Larry Daniel, Dean of the College of Education, has been a member of COBEC for almost 20 years. “I originally became interested in the organization while at another University that was doing extensive work in Belize. COBEC is special in the sense that everyone involved with the organization is interested in international partnerships between the United States and Belize. We received excellent feedback from our conference attendees with many saying they had several ideas about things to implement at their college or university.”
