Archiving Home

Emily Gui & Joshua Edwards

October 10, 2019 – November 3, 2019

Featuring works of Emily Gui and Joshua Edwards, Archiving Home asks how we construct notions of “home.” Emily Gui works across media to explore constructed space. By playing with representations of interiors and functional objects, her work aims to highlight and interrupt the everyday. Gui asks the viewer to question the built environment and its depth of memories through layered imagery of household scenes. Joshua Edwards ties landscape, poetry, and photography into one conversation for the viewer. Photographs Taken

at One-Hour Intervals During a Walk from Galveston Island to the West Texas Town of Marfa combines photographs with poetry. Starting in his birthplace on Galveston Island, J. Edwards walked to the sight of a newly self-designed family home in Marfa, taking 230 photographic images on this meditative journey across Texas.

Joshua Edwards was born in Galveston, Texas. He has authored several books including Castles and Islands, The Exhausted Dream, and Architecture for Travelers. He directs Canarium Books, teaches intermittently at the University of Chicago, and works as a bookseller at Marfa Book Company.
