Student holds out graduation cap
The small, close-knit feel of this University is part of what makes UT Permian Basin so special and Jay hopes future students will take full advantage of the growing campus life.

jaycree-webbs-2.jpgMore than 530 UT Permian Basin students are set to walk to stage this fall. One of those graduates is Jacyree Webbs.

Jacyree or “Jay” as he likes to be called, has attended UT Permian Basin for all four years of his undergraduate education, majoring in English with a minor in Political Science. Jay said graduation can’t come soon enough!

“I feel fantastic! I am really happy about graduating. It felt like it went by really fast. While I was in it, it felt like the longest thing ever but now looking back at it, it went by really quick.”

Jay was born and raised in Odessa. For him, attending The University of Texas Permian Basin was in his blood.

“My mom worked here when I was in middle school. I went to Nimitz so I walked over here every day so I’ve always felt like UTPB was a home away from home.”

“Being busy and being involved with the University really helped me make new friends and find my place within the University.”

jaycree-webbs-1.jpgIn fall 2018 Jay was elected UTPB’s student body President. But it was his first role with Student Senate in spring 2017 that led him to his future.

“Initially when I started in Student Senate I became interested in the rules and regulations so I was a part of the rules committee. It sparked my interest in becoming a lawyer.”

As Jay prepares to take the LSAT, he feels ready to enter the next phase of life but knows he couldn’t have gotten here without the quality education he’s earned at UT Permian Basin.

“I feel as prepared and confident as one can be. Going to law school is going to be different but I feel like this University has really prepared me for it.”
