Kevin Gray Richardson is Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at The University of Texas Permian Basin where he directs the Falcon Marching Band and conducts the Symphonic Winds. He also teaches courses in secondary methods, instrumental conducting, Marching Band Techniques, and Music Theory. His research interests include the unpublished band compositions of Vaclav Nelhybel.

Prior to this appointment, Dr. Richardson served as Associate Director of Bands and Assistant Professor in the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University from 2012 through 2018 where he was Director of "North Carolina's Band of Distinction" – the 300-member Appalachian Marching Mountaineers, and Conductor of the Appalachian Symphony Band. He also taught several courses in music education at the undergraduate and graduate levels and served as Academic Consultant to student teachers. From 2005 to 2011, Dr. Richardson held a similar position at Northwestern State University. He taught middle and high school band in Texas for 10 years where his marching and concert ensembles consistently received superior ratings at University Interscholastic League events and band festivals across the country.

Dr. Richardson earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting at the University of Houston Moores School of Music in 2012. While at UH he studied conducting and rehearsal techniques with David Bertman, Tom Bennett, and Eddie Green, and studied composition with Dr. Rob Smith. He holds a Master of Music degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from The University of Texas at Austin where he studied conducting with Jerry Junkin and Paula Crider, and percussion with Dr. George Frock.

Kevin G. Richardson is a composer and arranger of high school and collegiate marching shows. He is active as a clinician and adjudicator for marching, concert, and sight-reading contests throughout the south. His professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, College Band Directors National Association, Percussive Arts Society, the National Association for Music Education, and the National Band Association. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and holds honorary memberships in Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, and Sigma Alpha Iota. He is a member of Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.

Kevin and his wife, Jenny, and their daughters, Sydney and Luca, enjoy camping, grilling just about anything, watching college football, and hanging out with their dogs (Maggie Mae and Josie Brown) and Gumbeaux the cat.
