This is UTPB College of Business student, Alok Verma.

Alok comes to UT Permian Basin all the way from New Delhi, India. He previously attended Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology and graduated with an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering. He is looking forward to the new semester in the MS in Finance degree program.

Alok had initially started out as a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) major but decided to change to a Master of Science (MS) in Finance after hearing about the new opportunity. The College of Business recently expanded their programs to include this new graduate degree option as well as a Master of Science (MS) in Energy Business. This fall, Alok will be among the first students in the new M.S. in Finance program at UTPB.

“I studied engineering during my bachelor's, but for the past 8 years, I have worked as a B2B (business-to-business) liaison and as a financial planning and analysis professional,” said Verma. “My previous experience and future goals perfectly align with a graduate degree in business where I can learn industry-relevant skills.”

For Alok, UTPB was a great fit. “I chose UTPB because of the super supportive faculty and administrative staff, international recognition to the College of Business programs, and generous scholarships,” Verma added.

Verma said he encourages prospective students to apply to UTPB. “I tell students that at UTPB you’ll be getting the best education with generous financial aid, which allows a lot of students to graduate debt free!”

Currently, Alok is working as a summer intern at Flatland Holdings. After graduating from his master’s program, he already has some big plans. "I would like to start my own hedge fund in the future and get into venture capitalism.”

Alok shares some words of advice: “Hardwork & patience is the key- el trajabo duro y la paciencia es la clave. Dedication+ Determination+ Discipline – Dedicacion+ Determinacion+ Disciplina.”
